Bearss Persian Lime Tree is a thornless evergreen with handsome dark-green, glossy leaves, making a medium-sized outdoors in zone 10, or a more compact bush when grown in a pot. Unlike the Mexican lime, the fruits are normally seedless, and long, rather than spherical. The flesh is a beautiful light green, and more juicy than Mexican lime. This variety is dual purpose, because you can use it as green limes, and leave some to ripen to yellow skins, when they are more like lemons. Delicious and tangy, with just the right level of acidity for cocktails and cooking, it flowers and fruits throughout the year, and you could be picking fruit every month of the year. Not as cold-hardy as most other citrus, it can only be grown in the garden in zone 10. In other areas grow it in a pot, spending winter indoors. It makes a great tree to grow on your patio, out in the sun, where the fruit will be hanging there, ready to pick when cocktail time rolls around.

  • Dual-purpose green fruits ripen to lemon yellow
  • Virtually seed free and extra juicy, so great for both drinks and baking
  • Ripens year-round in good growing conditions
  • Thornless tree with attractive dark-green, glossy foliage
  • Grow in a pot, indoors in winter, except in zone 10

Plant your Bearss Persian Lime Tree in full sun. When indoors, keep it in a bright place that is also cool and not too dry. Outdoors it will grow in most soils that are well-drained, and has some drought tolerance once well established. Potted trees should be kept outdoors when temperatures are above 45 degrees, and indoors during colder periods. Don’t forget to feed potted trees regularly with liquid fertilizer designed for citrus trees, or with tomato food. Trees are deer resistant and keeping them outdoors as much as possible greatly reduces the risk of pests. When indoors keep in a cool, humid environment. Prune lightly in summer to keep potted trees more compact. If flowers are produced indoors hand pollination, with a soft artist’s brush, is necessary, preferably with pollen from another citrus, such as a lemon or a different lime tree.
