Like the waves of a blue ocean, cascading over rocks, the Pacific Pearl Deodar Cedar is a mounding evergreen with weeping branches, growing steadily to 3 feet tall in 10 years, and probably double that at maturity. It is wider than tall, and will eventually cover an area as much as 6 feet across. Not only does it form a graceful mound of silvery-blue, it is easy to grow and looks great at the front of beds, beside steps or a path, on slopes, or planted among boulders and gravel. In warmer zones it would also make a great specimen for a tub or planter box, bringing year-round color and interest to a patio or courtyard garden. The color is most intense on new growth, but lasts well throughout the year, not turning green as some older varieties do. A superb choice for a mounding evergreen, and sure to become the pearl in the jewel of your garden.

  • Rich silver-blue foliage in a weeping mound
  • Graceful arching form, about 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide – larger with time
  • Easy to grow in sunny spots, even dry ones
  • A great choice for an accent, on slopes and among boulders, or as bonsai
  • Deer-proof, tough and reliable

Plant your Pacific Pearl Deodar Cedar in full sun for the best growth and color. It will grow in almost any well-drained soil, including drier, sandy soils, but does best in richer earth, as long as it isn’t wet. It needs no trimming or training to develop its natural weeping form, and is very low-maintenance. Deer don’t eat it and it doesn’t have pest or disease problems. Water newly-planted trees twice a week at first, and regularly through the first season. After that apply some evergreen fertilizer in spring and water during extended dry periods.
