The Gingko Tree is familiar to many of us as a large shade tree, often seen in parks or streets. Beautiful, but probably too big for todayās smaller gardens. The Tschi Tschi Ginkgo Tree is something different. A bushy, often fan-shaped plant, it grows about 6 inches a year into an upright shrub, which in 10 years will be about 5 feet tall. It has the same beautiful leaves, like those of a maiden-hair fern, but of course larger and more leathery. In fall they turn wonderful glowing gold, a real highlight of fall. In summer the bright green leaves look lovely, and in winter you can enjoy the handsome trunk, which in this variety, as it ages, develops unique large, round protrusions which some say look like breasts. This gives it an exotic profile, and adds to the unique beauty and character of this great little tree. Oh, letās not forget it is also very, very easy to grow, even in harsh urban settings. Perfect in beds, beside a patio, or in a handsome pot for a courtyard or set of steps.
You can be sure that the Tschi Tschi Ginkgo Tree is going to be easy to grow, and ideal for new gardeners and city conditions. Plant it in full sun for the best fall coloring, and in any well-drained soil. Growing with ease in almost any garden, anywhere, including poor soils and urban conditions, it is drought tolerant once well-established, not eaten by deer, and almost never has any pest or disease problems. Let it grow naturally ā no trimming is needed or recommended. Plants in pots should be fed with liquid tree fertilizer through spring and early summer.
