The Fall Gold Raspberry is a delicious raspberry that is a great choice to make. It is everbearing, so once established it carries berries late in the season, from August to October, and also in June, so you have lots of berries for months of the year. As the name suggests, the berries are yellow, not red, making a great change, and looking especially good in fruit salads. It tastes just as sweet and delicious as the best red varieties, and it is self-fertile, so you can grow just this one, without creating a whole berry garden. Before the berries clusters of pretty white flowers are produced. You can grow it among shrubs in the garden, but for good fruit production it is best to train it on a trellis or horizontal wires. Although it can be grown in the traditional way, for fall crops you need to leave the canes for two seasons. New canes that sprout in spring produce fall berries on the upper one-third of the cane. Trim back that upper third in late fall. The next spring the lower section flowers and fruits in June, after which it should be cut to the ground, leaving just the new canes, which will fruit in fall.

  • A delicious raspberry with golden-yellow fruits
  • Crops in June, and again between August and October
  • Easily grown as an open shrub, or trained on a trellis or wires
  • Self-fertile, so you don’t need an elaborate fruit garden of different varieties
  • Regular pruning is needed for plant health and good fruit production

Plant the Fall Gold Raspberry in full sun, among shrubs, tied to a trellis, or on two wires, stretched between poles and spaced 2 feet and 4 feet above the ground. Tie the canes loosely to the wires as they grow, spreading them out and bending over the tips of taller canes. If you want just a large fall crop, cut all the canes to the ground after they have fruited, and tie in the new spring ones as they grow up. Although some minor pests, like greenflies, can be seen on new stems, generally this plant rarely has any pest or disease problems, and the thorns make deer stay away. Be aware that if plants are not trained and pruned regularly, they become large, thorny tangles and a pest in your garden.
