Wittem Dahlia Bulbs

A wonderful shorter variety, the Wittem Dahlia is perfect for bringing delicate but striking color to your garden, from July right into the fall months. Standing no more than 2 feet tall, its flowers are produced in abundance, on short stems that need no staking. A charming display of soft pinks and white, looking like an explosion of charm. Rounded and full, the flowers are carried just above a compact clump of glossy, dark-green leaves, on a plant that is very easy to grow. It’s suitable for garden planting among perennials, or in front of evergreens, and its small size makes it also great for pot-growing, opening up possibilities for attractive planters and pots to decorate your terrace, porch or balcony. An ideal smaller plant for smaller gardens and a charming addition to your beds, it extends the flowering season long after the spring displays are just a memory.

Grow the Wittem Dahlia in full sun – it will also take a little shade. Plant it in rich, moist, well-drained soil, adding plenty of compost and watering regularly to achieve that. Deer don’t eat it, and it is generally free of pests or diseases. Fertilize regularly, especially when growing in pots, and remove dead flowers back to the first side-buds, to keep those blooms coming and coming. You can leave it in the ground from zone 6, perhaps with some mulch to protect it. New shoots will appear in spring. In zones 4 and 5, lift it in late fall, let it dry, and remove soil and foliage. Store the tubers in a paper bag with a little peat moss, in a cool place that isn’t too dry.
