No spring is complete without the beauty of creeping phlox, one of our most beautiful native plants. For a splash of spring snow, plant the White Delight Creeping Phlox in your garden, ideally in a kaleidoscope of colors with some of our other varieties. This plant grows into a spreading mound of dense, weed-proof foliage up to 2 feet across, but only about 4 inches high. Very drought and sun tolerant, it is ideal for slopes, rock gardens and wilder rocky places, as well as for edging borders and planting to spill out onto paths and paved areas. Great in the levels of retaining walls too, this is a garden classic that never grows old. The narrow leaves are bright green, and they completely disappear in early spring when the beautiful flowers cover the whole plant in dense profusion. Each small flower has four pure-white petals, notched in the center so it looks like there are 8, with a tiny yellow ‘eye’ sparking in the center of the bloom. The fine foliage has a mossy look, and this plant is often called moss phlox, for that reason. The beauty of this plant, and other creeping phlox, can’t be exaggerated – the effect is truly stunning and delightful.

  • Low, spreading mound of mossy foliage up to 2 feet across
  • Smothered in pure-white flowers in spring
  • Sun-loving and drought tolerant
  • Ideal for slopes, rock gardens, retaining walls and edging paths
  • A light trim after flowering is all it takes to keep it looking fabulous

Pick a spot in full sun for your White Delight Creeping Phlox, for maximum flowering and a dense plant. It should be planted in any type of well-drained soil, including rocky soils and alkaline ones too. Some compost added to the soil when planting will get it going well, and water regularly until it becomes established. After that it will be drought resistant, and therefore invaluable in xeric gardens and wild places too, since it is a selection of a native plant. It isn’t bothered by pests or diseases, deer, or even salt spray, so plant it in coastal areas too. Trim lightly with shears right after the flowers fade. That will keep it dense, bushy, and sure to flower profusely the next spring. Don’t trim at other times of the year, as this can reduce or prevent flowering.
