Satellite Bosnian Pine
Pinus leucodermis 'Satellite'this item doesnāt ship to
If you enjoy the special beauty of pines, but donāt have room for a full-sized tree, then the Satellit Bosnian Pine is for you. This superb miniature grows to 6 feet tall in 10 years, typically maturing around 10 feet tall, and usually about half as wide as it is tall. It forms a perfect slender pyramid or column of upright branches, densely covered in 2-3 inch needles of deep green. It has all the charm of a large tree, but in miniature, and itās a striking and easily grown tree. Itās the perfect choice for an easy but beautiful specimen for a small garden. Great out on a small lawn area, or among low-growing shrubs, you could also plant it in among rocks and gravel, and as an accent on a slope. Alone, or in a group of three, it makes an eye-catching statement. Perfect in a pot too, or as a bonsai tree. The unusual name is Dutch, because the tree was discovered in the Netherlands.
Plant the Satellit Bosnian Pine in full sun, in any well-drained soil. It enjoys sandy soils, and shallow, rocky ones too. Once established itās drought tolerant, but grows best in cooler zones, not enjoying hot, humid summers so much. It isnāt eaten by deer and usually stays completely free of pests or diseases. You never need to trim it, and we donāt recommend you try, as that tight, upright shape is entirely natural. Keep a single central stem standing at the top, so it doesnāt develop a split trunk. Cut back any stems that are competing by half their length.
