The Ruby Supreme Guava is one of the easiest tropical fruits to grow, and even a small bush in a pot will yield a respectable crop of delicious fruits. It has fragrant, white flowers in spring and summer, even on a small tree, and the glossy, evergreen leaves are attractive too. The fruits are up to 4 inches long, pear-shaped and green when immature, becoming soft, perhaps with some red areas, when they are ripe. Even the skin is edible, and the inside of the fruit is filled with soft, pink-red flesh. The flavor is sweet and delicious, with an attractive fragrance, and you can eat them fresh or make jelly and other preserves out of them. A tree often flowers and fruits on a 60 to 90 day cycle, giving several crops in a season. It becomes a small tree when grown outdoors, or it can be grown in a container as a shrub, and kept outdoors in summer, meaning that you can enjoy these delicious and abundant fruits wherever you live.

  • Delicious fruits have soft, red flesh with a lovely fragrance
  • Fragrant, white flowers in spring and summer
  • Forms a shrub or small tree with glossy evergreen leaves
  • Grow outdoors or in a container as a houseplant
  • One of the easiest tropical fruits to grow, with fruit even on young plants

Grow the Ruby Supreme Guava in full sun, or with just a touch of shade. It will grow in any ordinary, well-drained soil, and in ordinary potting soil in a container. Use tomato fertilizer regularly for potted plants. It may have the usual houseplant pests, but time outdoors will allow for natural control of those. Bring indoors in fall when night temperatures approach 45oF, and put outdoors in spring once it is 50oF at night. Plants are self-fertile but a plant that flowers indoors may need to be hand-pollinated with a soft artist’s brush, since there are no bees or other pollinators available. Simply use the brush to gently transfer pollen from one flower to another.
