Rosebud Dianthus

The Premier™ Rosebud Dianthus really does deserve a top place in your garden, for the beauty of its blooms and the ease of growing it. Forming a small mound of blue-green, evergreen foliage, it blooms profusely, standing about 8 inches tall in bloom, with every flower stem carrying up to 5 blooms. One-inch wide, these charming semi-double flowers have serrated edges on the petals and are a striking, rich, salmon-pink color. It flowers more or less continuously, from April to October in warmer zones, with a slightly shorter season in colder ones. A great plant for edging your beds of perennials, for growing in a rock garden or for planting in pots, which look great on an outdoor table. The flowers can be cut for table decoration, and last up to 10 days in a vase. Plant it in the levels of retaining walls, where you can both see it close-up and enjoy the soft, clove-scented fragrance.

Plant the Premier™ Rosebud Dianthus in full sun for maximum blooming, and grow it in well-drained soil. It enjoys sandy soils, or ones that contain grit and gravel, and it also prefers neutral or alkaline soils, so it’s great if you garden on limestone. If you have acidic soil just add some garden lime to the soil when planting and it will be happy. Some feeding with liquid fertilizer will help keep blossoms coming. It isn’t eaten by deer or rabbits, and it doesn’t normally have pest or disease problems. Since it is evergreen, don’t cut back in fall when you are doing your other perennials. Instead, dead-head by cutting well back, encouraging new growth from low down and preventing flopping.
