Flying to the rescue, the Private Jet® Arborvitae is the answer when the problem is privacy. Enjoy the luxury of full screening in just a few years, with this fast-growing evergreen. Adding at least a foot a year, it grows into a dense, upright column of gorgeous green, reaching 15 or 20 feet tall, and staying a compact 4 or 5 feet wide. The sprays of evergreen foliage make a dense screen, and this plant is also great for vertical accents, filling the corners between walls or of your lot, as a specimen out on a lawn – singly or in a cluster of three – and anywhere you want a fast-growing evergreen to fill a space or make a screen. It’s so dense in growth you don’t even need to trim it, although it does make excellent hedges. The best evergreen for cold climates, arborvitae are very cold hardy, and will even grow in wet soil as long as it isn’t stagnant.

  • Dense, upright growth makes it ideal for screening and vertical accents
  • Rich green, aromatic foliage stays fresh and bright right through winter
  • Fast growing, even in cold climates
  • Hardy to minus 40, making it the top choice for zones 3 and 4
  • Resistant to deer and free of significant diseases or pests

Grow the Private Jet® Arborvitae in full sun for the densest growth, but it will grow happily in a spot with a few hours of shade each day. Plant it in any well-drained soil, although it prefers moist, rich soils, so add compost when planting, and water regularly, especially when young. Drought tolerant of ordinary summer dryness once established, it will also grow in wet soils. Evergreen fertilizer in spring will give it a boost, and maximize annual growth. For a screen, space plants 3 feet apart – you will have a solid screen in just a few years. If you want a neat, flat hedge, trim as needed, from late spring, after the first growth has matured a little, into early fall. Avoid trimming during hot, dry weather. It isn’t eaten by deer, and has no serious pests or diseases.
