Top of the charts for blooms, the Pop Star® Reblooming Hydrangea produces more blooms for its size than any other variety – grow it and find out for yourself. Featuring an abundance of blooms on both old and new branches, this remarkable reblooming variety produces lace-caps flower heads, a circle of large flowers surrounding a center of small ones. Those central blooms attract many butterflies and other pollinators, bringing life to your garden and food to local insect populations. The color varies with your soil, being deep blue in acidic soils, blue/purple in neutral soils, and deep pink in alkaline soils. If you grow some in pots you can change the color with hydrangea food so you can enjoy all the colors possible. It makes a compact bush no more than 3 feet tall and wide, and will bloom well even in zone 4. Grow it in your shrub beds, as a border along a bed or path, or in planter boxes and pots, which is a great place for it if blue blooms are your priority.
Grow the Pop Star® Reblooming Hydrangea in full sun in cold zones, or in partial shade everywhere else. Morning sun and afternoon shade is ideal, but some direct sun is needed for abundant blooming. Plant in a rich, moist but well-drained soil, adding peat moss or compost when planting, and as mulch. This plant is not drought tolerant, and should be watered regularly before the leaves begin to droop. Plants in pots are only hardy to zone 6, otherwise bury the pot in the ground for winter. Only remove dead branches in spring, don’t prune or the early blooms will be lost.
