Pearl Glam® Beautyberry

The Pearl Glam® Beautyberry will blow you away with its amazing orchid-pink berries, and this one also has beautiful purple foliage, making it a great color highlight when it isn’t showing those startling berries – the color is unique and unbelievable. Yet this is an easy, accommodating shrub, with a compact, upright shape to about 5 feet, and just 3 feet wide. It grows in almost any garden, including city ones, and can even be grown in zone 5. In summer the stems carry simple white flowers, and in fall these change into gorgeous pink berries, really earning that ‘beautyberry’ name. Compared to older types, this one has great foliage color, a more compact, upright shape, and abundant fruit without any need for a second plant to pollinate it. Grow it in any shrub bed or border, or use it in more natural settings, and even in planter boxes and large pots.

The Pearl Glam® Beautyberry may look exotic, but it’s super-easy to grow. Plant it in full sun, in any moist, well-drained soil – it takes drier soils too, if it must. It grows well in urban locations too, and is trouble-free. It isn’t eaten by deer, and doesn’t have any significant pests or diseases. Prune in spring, removing any dead twigs and trimming back as needed. In zone 5 there may be some winter dieback, giving you a smaller plant, but it will still bloom and fruit happily, as it does this on new growth. A great plant for new gardeners, and for busy ones too.
