Pasja Calla Lily Bulbs

If you can never decide what color to plant, go with the Pasja Calla Lily. That way you get a whole palette of colors, from deep purple through lilacs all the way to soft pink, as the long-lived flowers fade. A perfectly coordinated display, this variety is more compact than most other Calla lilies, standing no more than 18 inches tall, so it’s perfect for small places in the garden, pots, and as a houseplant. The narrow foliage is like a spearhead, and is dark, glossy green, without the spots typically seen on calla lilies. Plant it beside water – it loves that damp soil – or among other perennials in any rich soil – or grow it in pots outdoors or indoors. Hardy to zone 7 it is easily kept over winter in colder zones. A true beauty, this plant is popular with florists, and perfect for cutting for a vase.

The Pasja Calla Lily is more hardy than many others, overwintering outdoors in zone 7. In colder zones lift it in late fall, let the clump dry completely, and then remove soil and foliage, leaving the root clean and dry. Store it in a brown paper bag in a cool place, with some peat moss or wood shavings around it. Plant in a pot in March, planting it out in May, or directly in the garden in April or May for later blooms. It flowers between 2 and 3 months after planting. Deer and rabbits won’t eat it, and it generally stays free of pests or diseases. Water generously and use fertilizer regularly for plants indoors or growing in pots.
