We all love to see azaleas in spring – their coloring is so lovely, and their blooming so intense. Why wait a whole year to see it again, when you can grow the FlorAmore® Lavender Azalea? This amazing new variety blooms in spring, and then, after a short rest, starts up again, blooming all through summer and into early fall. Wow! Imagine how much more colorful your garden will be, for so much longer, with this plant, instead of the traditional oldies. Growing into a rounded bush about 3 feet tall and wide, it’s perfect for edging a path or adding a highlight to your shrub beds. Plant it on a slope, or in a planter box or pot, where you can move it around as you need to enjoy its beauty up close and personal. Even in winter the attractive, dark-green foliage is a pleasure, giving structure and permanence to your garden. The flowers are carried in clusters of up to 9 blooms at the end of every stem, and each flowers is an open trumpet, 3 inches across, of gorgeous lavender-pink, with darker purple-red spotting in the throat. Created by Robert Lee, who brought us the Encore® azaleas, this is a new generation of repeat-blooming azaleas you will love. Blend it with other FlorAmore® colors for a fabulous display.
The FlorAmore® Lavender Azalea is hardy from zone 7, and thrives in warm to hot, humid areas. Grow it with more sun than typical azaleas, as this stimulates the repeat blooming. Full sun, or some afternoon shade is best, but good watering is needed. Plant in a rich, moist, acidic soil that is well drained. If you don’t have suitable soil, grow it in a pot, using blended soil for acid-loving plants, and feed with azalea fertilizer. Deer don’t eat it, and it rarely has any significant pest or disease problems. Growth is naturally dense, but if you want to trim, do it to the new growth that follows the first blooming, trimming those stems in half while they are still young. Don’t trim later, or reblooming will be lost.
