If you love white, you will adore Henry’s Clematis. Its enormous, 8-inch blooms are bowls of white purity, highlighted by the chocolate brown (or is it purplish?) cluster of anthers that fill the center of the bowl. It blooms profusely in late spring, and then again in late summer and into fall. In cold zones it doesn’t reliably bloom in spring, but it still gives a magnificent display later in the season. The vigorous stems grow over 10 feet tall and about 4 feet wide. Grow it on a trellis panel, pergola, gazebo or fence. Place a trellis panel out in your perennial beds for a spectacular look. Let it climb up into a large shrub or tree. Easy to care for and simply beautiful, this is one of the top clematis available, and deserves a home in your garden – because you deserve to enjoy its beauty.
Grow Henry’s Clematis with its upper growth in the sun for at least six hours a day, and with the lower parts and roots shaded. This could be a small shrub, or it could be some flat stones placed over the root zone. Plant in rich, moist, well-drained soil that is alkaline. If you have acid soil, add a handful of garden lime when planting. Place in the soil so that the top of the pot soil is 3 or 4 inches below the ground. Water regularly as needed.
