Your face will really shine, with a big smile, when you see Cheryl’s Shineā„¢ Hellebore growing in your garden. A new take on the old Lenten roses, which have been transformed by skilled breeding into a whole new generation of beauty. The flowers are carried well above the leaves, and they face outwards, without drooping, so you can really enjoy them. In this variety they are exceptionally large, a full 4 inches across, and produced in abundance. Flowering starts as early as January, or no later than April, depending on your growing zone, and then continues for 3 months. Flowers are a rich, pink-purple, eventually lightening and then becoming greenish, but still beautiful, towards the end of their life. The foliage is fabulous too, a dense, groundcover mound of leathery, glossy leaves. These are marbled in wonderful silver veining, and look great all year round. Grow this plant in your shade garden, where it adds great evergreen foliage, and beneath larger deciduous shrubs, where it makes a tough, drought tolerant groundcover. You can also grow it in a pot, and enjoy the blooming indoors, in a cool, bright room.

  • Very large, 4-inch diameter rich purple flowers in winter
  • ā€ months of blooms, beginning between January and April
  • Tough, drought tolerant, excellent in shade
  • Beautiful glossy foliage with striking silvery marble patterning
  • Flower it indoors too, by growing it in a pot

Plant your Cheryl’s Shineā„¢ Hellebore in shade, ideally with a touch of morning sun. Beneath deciduous shrubs is an excellent spot for this plant, providing good groundcover and tolerating summer drought. It will grow in all well-drained soils, including clays, poor soils, urban gardens and alkaline soils too. Use compost when planting, and use it as a mulch once a year too. Water new plants, but established plants are quite drought tolerant. Don’t trim the leaves in fall, wait until flower stems have pushed up, and then remove any unsightly leaves. New growth begins as flowering ends. It isn’t eaten by deer or rabbits, and has no significant pest or disease problems. A very easy, very long-lived plant you will love.
