Wow, it’s a brilliant start to the season from the Dolce® Cherry Truffles Coral Bells. The round, 5-inch diameter leaves have amazing ruffled, undulating edges, but it’s going to be their rich and brilliant cherry red coloring that attracts you first. A real stand-out color that really pops in the garden, and it will be the cherry in your garden cocktail. Forming a low, spreading plant over 2 feet wide but barely a foot tall, it is great for edging and covering the ground, and a few plants will go a long way. As summer comes the cherry-red transforms into an elegant and cooler mahogany-brown, like red-stained milk chocolate. Red stems carrying many tiny pink flowers complete the picture, rising up and swaying in the summer breezes. A superb plant for edging, mass-planting, rock gardens, slopes in sun or shade, and for planters and pots. Easy to grow, trouble-free and fabulous – your garden deserves nothing less.
For the best spring colors, plant the Dolce® Cherry Truffles Coral Bells in partial shade, with some morning sun, or in full sun in cool zones. It also grows well in light full shade, but with softer coloring. Plant 15 or 18 inches apart for edging or ground cover. Grow it in almost any well-drained soil – it enjoys some moisture and richer soil, but don’t plant in areas that are wet, especially places wet in winter. Established plants have good drought resistance, and dryness even encourages stronger leaf colors. Deer normally leave it alone, and it doesn’t normally suffer from pest or disease problems. Clean up the dead leaves in spring, if needed, and trim off dead flower stems if you like things neat. A very easy to plant to grow, and one you will love.
