While Bugleweed is thought of as a low, small groundcover, sometimes we need it’s benefits, but on a larger scale. Perhaps you have a big area to cover, or want a plant with more impact for a high-profile spot. Perhaps you want to use it as individual plants in a shady-bed arrangement. That’s when you can turn to Catlin’s Giant Bugleweed. With leaves 6-inches long forming a dense rosette, it soon grows into a bold clump up to 18 inches across, standing a good foot tall when in flower – ‘giant’ indeed. The foliage is evergreen even in cold zones, and it is glossy and dark green with deep-purple overtones. It makes a dense, weed-resistant covering over large areas in shade. In spring tall spikes grow up to at least 12 inches tall, studded with a profusion of small sky-blue flowers – a gorgeous carpet and an outstanding spring feature.

  • Larger than other varieties for large areas and higher impact
  • 6-inch leaves are glossy and deep green with purple tones
  • A carpet of blue spires in early spring
  • Grows easily in all light levels
  • Large enough to grow as a specimen in a mixed bed

Catlin’s Giant Bugleweed will grow in full sun if the soil is damp, and just as well in partial or full shade – more adaptable than almost any other plant. It grows best in moist soil with good drainage, but in cooler zones it will grow well in boggy, wet areas. Low drought tolerance. Almost never bothered by deer, pests or diseases. Trim after flowering – it can be done with a mower set high – and it will quickly leaf-out and look fresh and new until next year.
