You will really hit pay-dirt when you plant the Bonanza Daylily in your garden. The large gold flowers are like that pot at the end of the rainbow, and each one has a striking purple-red throat, making a fabulous bi-colored flower that will look great everywhere you plant it. Daylilies really are the plant for everyone, everywhere, as the grow in almost all zones, and handle cold, heat, dryness and humidity with ease. They are perfect for beginners, but equally popular with experienced gardeners, who appreciate the huge variety, and how they fill the summer garden with color. The Bonanza Daylily forms a dense clump of narrow, strap-like leaves, from which rise stems to 3 feet tall, carrying numerous buds, making a great display for weeks, through July and often into August. Super-easy to care for, grow it with other perennials – other yellows, blues and purples would be obvious choices – or as a clump among shrubs, or in a rock garden. Great on a slope, at the foot of a wall, or indeed anywhere you need summer color.
Plant your Bonanza Daylily in full sun, if possible, or with just a little shade. Too much will seriously reduce flowering. Ideally it should be planted in a rich, moist, well-drained soil, but this is a tough plant that will grow in any ordinary soil, from sand to clay, but avoid wet places. Drought tolerant, but if you can water occasionally during long dry periods, it will thank you for it. This variety dies down completely in fall, so cut down the dead leaves at that time. Removing dead flowers, and finally the whole flower stalk, helps to keep it looking tidy. It won’t be eaten by deer, and almost never has any pest or disease problems
