As cool and refreshing as a summer drink, The Grin and Tonic™ Reblooming Hydrangea brings your garden the most fashionable and useful of colors – white and green. These neutrals are essential to highlight the stronger colors you may be using, and also to bring an air of peace and tranquility to your garden space. It’s a vigorous small bush, growing 2 or 3 feet tall and wide, producing two crops of blooms – the major one, in early summer, on the stems of the previous year, and the second smaller blooming, in late summer and fall, on new growth. Each head is 6 inches across, dome-shaped, and contains around 35 individual flowers. These are gorgeous lime-green when newly opened, turning paler and paler to become pure white as they mature. Heads last at least 6 weeks, providing continuous bloom in your garden for most of the summer and fall. The large, glossy, serrated leaves are rich green, making a lovely backdrop for the stunning blooms. This cool, calm plant is ideal for borders, shrub beds, and for pots and planters too.

  • Beautiful blooms begin lime-green and mature to pure white
  • Blooms in early summer and again in late summer or fall
  • Compact bush with handsome glossy leaves
  • Good cold tolerance for cooler zones
  • Neutral colors valuable in every garden

Plant the Grin and Tonic™ Reblooming Hydrangea in a spot with a mix of sun and shade. In colder zones it can take more sun, and afternoon shade is ideal. Too shady a spot will result in limited flowering. It should be planted in soil that is rich with compost or manure, and well-drained. Soils that are mostly damp are best, as this plant isn’t drought tolerant. It will grow in both acidic and alkaline soils, and isn’t affected by soil pH. Prune lightly in spring, after you see new growth, removing any dead branches and cutting back just to the first strong buds. Normally the bud at the end of the branch will bloom, so don’t remove it. Take away old flower heads once you feel they are no longer attractive, cutting just above the top-most pair of leaves. In bad winters in colder regions winter injury may prevent the first blooming, but new growth will bloom later in the season. Hydrangeas are usually free of pest or disease problems, and easy to grow.
