The Cherokee Princess Dogwood Tree was one of the very first dogwoods specially bred for gardens, and it was a major improvement on the wild tree. Now that classic has been super-charged with further skillful breeding, so if you are looking for a white-flowering dogwood, look no further than the Super Princess Dogwood Tree. Forming a broad tree with branches elegantly layered for a graceful look, the flowers are larger and more abundant, and the tree still bloom early, so no waiting to see just how beautiful the blooms really are. It flowers in spring on bare branches, making it even more striking, and the abundance of blooms will amaze you. A small tree, reaching about 20 feet tall and 25 feet wide, it looks fabulous on a lawn, or edging a natural part of your garden. If you want a flowering tree, this is the one you want – a super tree indeed.

  • An abundance of large, pure-white flowers on bare branches in spring
  • Rich green foliage turns reds and purples in fall
  • Graceful layered look, with horizontal branching
  • Fabulous on a lawn or against a woodland background
  • An improved form of the classic Cherokee Princess

In a sheltered spot the Super Princess Dogwood Tree will grow in zone 5, and of course in all warmer zones, right into zone 9. It enjoys deep, rich soil that is well-drained, so add plenty of organic materials when preparing the planting spot. Acidic soils are preferred. Regular watering while young, and avoiding water stress in established trees by mulching is necessary for good health. In cooler climates it will grow in full sun, but in hot zones plant so that it has some afternoon shade in summer. It prefers to be close to existing trees, rather than in isolation, so choose a spot like that if you can. It is generally pest and disease free, and you can help by watering, giving shelter, and avoiding stress. Pruning isn’t needed, and it is best to let your tree grow naturally, except for removing any branches for clearance. This should be done while the tree is young, to avoid scarring. Prune in early spring.
