Looking like you spread farm butter across your garden, the Buttercream Drift® Rose is a wonderful groundcover rose that is perfect for edging beds, paths and terraces, planting at the top of walls, or in drifts among perennials or around your home. It also looks great in pots or planter boxes, alone, beneath taller plants, or blended with perennials. Spreading 2 feet wide but barely 18 inches tall, it blooms profusely and continuously from late spring right into fall and even early winter in warmer zones. The glossy, deep-green foliage is a perfect background for the abundant clusters of small, double blossoms that are creamy yellow and bright. It looks great on its own, or can we suggest blending with blues and purples, but also with pinks, where its soft coloring brightens and lifts all the colors around it. Bring a lush, rich look to your garden with this beautiful groundcover rose that is disease-resistant, always in bloom and easy to grow.
- Abundant and continuous flowering from late spring into fall
- A profusion of sprays of small, creamy-yellow double blooms
- Healthy, glossy foliage that is resistant to Black Spot disease
- Low-growing and wide-spreading, ideal for edging and groundcover
- Also suitable for pots and planters, outdoors through winter from zone 7
Plant the charming Buttercream Drift® Rose in full sun for abundant blooming. Grow it in good garden soil that you have enriched with compost, rotted manure or rotted leaves. It enjoys heavier loams and clay soils, but they should be well-drained. Mulch to conserve moisture, and note that although this plant is reasonably drought tolerant, a continuous supply of moisture is needed through summer for continuous blooming. In pots, add 25% garden soil to regular potting soil. Fertilize in spring with slow-release rose food, and feed plants in pots with liquid rose food from spring to early fall. Prune lightly in early spring, just as growth is beginning, removing twiggy, dead or broken branches, and leaving a framework of stronger stems, removing about half their length. Resistant to black spot disease and vigorous, so pests are rarely serious. Use our Neem Oil spray to control any insects you might encounter.
