Golden Star Calla Lily Bulbs

Striking no matter how you grow it, the Golden Star Calla Lily is a wonderful perennial plant that can be grown in the garden, in pots, or as a houseplant. In warm zones just leave it outdoors to resprout in spring, and in colder ones bring it inside for the winter – it’s easy. Perfect beside water – it adores damp soil – the glossy leaves are speckled with white freckles, and the flowers, produced from late spring through summer, are abundant. Like funnels, and with thick, smooth petals, they look like golden trumpets, set to herald the arrival of summer fun. Standing 2 or even 3 feet tall, this is a striking specimen plant when grown directly in the garden, or a beautiful choice for decorative pots, on your porch, terrace, patio or balcony – you don’t even need a garden to enjoy it. You can leave the Golden Star Calla Lily outdoors all year in zone 8, and possibly in warmer parts of zone 7 as well. In colder zones lift the clump at the end of fall, allow it to dry completely, and then separate the root pieces from the soil and foliage. Store them in a paper bag in a cool place, with some dry peat moss or wood shavings. Replant in a pot indoors in March and plant outside as soon as the risk of frost is over. Blooming begins no more than 3 months from the date of planting. For later blooms, plant directly in the garden in April or early May. Grows best in full sun, but will take a little shade, and in rich, moist to wet soil that is fresh and not stagnant. Not eaten by deer or rabbits, and generally easy to grow. It can also be grown year-round indoors, keeping moist in spring and summer, and drier during fall and winter.
