You should plant your Deutschland Dahlia in full sun, to enjoy the best and biggest blooms. Plant in well-drained soil enriched with plenty of compost, and keep well-watered at all times. It’s easy to grow, not eaten by deer, and usually free of any significant pests or diseases. For the largest blooms, remove side-buds as the central flower develops – this isn’t necessary for general garden display. In fall cut down the stems if you are in zone 6 or warmer – new growth will come next spring. In colder zones, lift the whole plant, allow it to dry completely, and remove the soil and foliage, storing it in a brown bag in a cool, humid environment for the winter.
