Bring exotic beauty into your garden beds, pots, and indoor space with the beautiful Black Eyed Lady Calla Lily. The striking white-spotted leaves are only the beginning, because this plant also produces beautiful creamy-yellow flowers with a dramatic black throat. Rapidly sprouting in spring, it forms a clump of glossy leaves 1 to 2 feet tall, so lovely they alone would earn it a place in your garden, but when the flowers arrive their elegance will amaze you. Plant it beside water – it loves damp places – or among your perennial flowers, for an exotic and striking feature. Use it in a pot on a terrace, patio or balcony. Grow it year-round outdoors in warm zones, or lift the root for winter storage in colder ones. You can also keep it as a houseplant – it’s a versatile and adaptable plant you can enjoy in so many different ways.

  • Striking creamy-yellow flowers with a dramatic black throat
  • Attractive glossy leaves are green with white spots
  • Perfect for the garden, pots, on the porch or in the house
  • Easily kept over winter as a dry root, in colder zones
  • Fascinating houseplant for color and beauty

The Black Eyed Lady Calla Lily is hardy from zone 8. In colder zones lift it in late fall and allow to dry, removing all the soil and old foliage and storing the dry root until spring. Start it in a pot in March, and plant outside when the risk of frost has passed. It can also be grown year-round as a houseplant. Grows best in full sun, in damp to wet soil, but with drainage, so the soil is not stagnant. Fertilize regularly when grown in pots, and water frequently in spring and summer, keeping it drier in fall and over the winter. Not eaten by deer or rabbits, this plant doesn’t suffer from serious pest or disease problems.
