Banana Cream Shasta Daisy

The beautiful purity of white daisies is one thing, but making them a soft, creamy yellow raises the whole game to another level. The large, 3-4 inch blooms of the Banana Cream Shasta Daisy open a cool lemon-yellow, turning to creamy white, surrounding a golden center, as they mature. This soft toning is perfect when blended with blues and purples – behind catmint for example – and also looks great with golds, oranges and caramels. A profusion of blooms rising about 18 inches tall, on strong stems (perfect for cutting too) makes this gorgeous perennial a highlight of early summer. After blooming it becomes a mat of lush green leaves, building strength for the next year. Very low maintenance and reliable plant for cottage gardens, perennial borders, fronting shrub beds, and spectacular in pots and planters too.

In cooler zones the Banana Cream Shasta Daisy will thrive in full sun, while in warmer areas afternoon shade is beneficial. Plant in rich, moist, well-drained soil and water regularly, as needed. Avoid areas that are wet in winter. Mulch around the roots in spring, and remove flowers and stems after blooming. Don’t cut the green leaves that sprout from the base after blooming is over. Generally free of pests and diseases, and the leaves stay healthy and green. Easy to grow and very valuable in colder zones.
