Morgan’s Chinese Arborvitae is a remarkable and colorful evergreen bush, with dramatic winter colors. In spring and summer it is an attractive yellow-green to lime-green. In fall it turns purple, and then a rich orange red for the winter months. This lovely chameleon will bring lots of interest to your garden, and it is especially valuable for color in winter, that most colorless of seasons. This easy to grow plant is hardy from zone 6 to 8, and it is a perfect addition to a collection of dwarf conifers, or a great first plant for starting one. Grow it with other colorful evergreens, or in a bed where you can see it from a window in winter. Use it in warmer regions as a container plant, where it will brighten a terrace or patio.

  • Dramatic cycle of foliage colors through the year
  • Lime-green in summer and orange-red in winter
  • Unique flat fans of foliage grow vertically upright
  • Needs no trimming to develop a neat conical form
  • Brightens any garden in winter

A sunny location is perfect for Morgan’s Chinese Arborvitae, and that will develop the best colors on the foliage. Plant it in any soil, from dry to very moist, but well-drained richer soils will give the best results and fastest growth. This plant normally has no pests or diseases. It needs no trimming to stay neat, and it is best untrimmed to show off the unique flat and vertical arrangement of its sprays of foliage.
