The Soft Caress Mahonia is a unique new plant that everyone wants. Its combination of soft, narrow foliage, fragrant, bright yellow winter flowers, and ability to grow well in partial to full shade, makes this a plant that no garden can be without. Winner of ‘Plant of the Year’ in 2013, this superb bush grows just 3 feet tall and across, and flowers in the winter for at least a month, lifting that dull season with bright color. It is perfect for filling those awkward shady spots that every garden has, and its evergreen foliage always looks great. With its ‘bamboo’ feel it is perfect for an Asian-style garden, or in a woodland garden, as well as in regular beds around your home. It also grows perfectly in containers and planters, bringing winter color to your terrace.

  • Unique spineless relative of Oregon Grape
  • Soft to the touch foliage resembles bamboo leaves
  • Bright yellow, fragrant flowers in winter
  • Thrives in shady parts of your garden
  • Vigorous and easy to grow

Grow the Soft Caress Mahonia anywhere from full sun to full shade. Partial light shade is ideal. It grows vigorously in any moist, well-drained soil, preferring richer soils and lighter clay soils. As it is not very particular, it will grow well in almost all garden conditions, except for hot and dry places. In planters make sure they have drainage holes, and use outdoor potting soil, not garden soil. After flowering you may want to cut the longer branches of older plants at ground level, to encourage new growth from the base, and keep your plants very bushy.
