The Fiddle Leaf Fig is currently enjoying a well-deserved vogue as a house plant. It has just the right look for contemporary décor, with its large, bold leaves, upright growth and deep green foliage. The leaves can be 18 inches long and 12 inches wide, and they are shaped like the body of a violin. This tree will grow to around 6 feet tall in the house, but if you live in an area without winter frost, it can be planted outdoors to become a wide tree up to 30 feet tall. It also makes an excellent background plant for a collection of tropical plants in a solarium, sunroom or indoor pool area. It grows best in brightly-lit areas near windows, and just needs regular watering and fertilizer to grow into an attractive and very decorative plant that you will enjoy for many years.

  • Bold violin-shaped leaves
  • Excellent houseplant for the modern home
  • Can live indoors all year, or be moved out for summer
  • Easily grown in any bright spot
  • Great outdoor tree in warm areas

Place your fig tree in a bright spot near a window, or in direct sunlight. If you move it outdoors in summer, place it in a spot with similar light-levels to its indoor home. Use regular house-plant soil for your tree, and always put it in a pot with drainage holes. Water when the soil surface becomes dry, and water thoroughly until the water flows from the drainage holes. Use a liquid fertilizer regularly from spring to fall. This plant is usually not bothered by any significant pests or diseases.
