Drought tolerant, happy in dry conditions, grows on the coast, and beautiful too, the Dwarf Garden Juniper Tree is also striking and beautiful. Supported by a short, strong trunk, this beautiful small evergreen forms a cascading column of flowing branches, covered in blue-green needles. The natural wave-like form of the branches makes it almost look like a fountain, and standing only around 3 feet tall it is ideal for smaller gardens and courtyards. In time the branches will flow across the ground, and the character and beauty of this plant grows and grows as it matures and ages. The short, pointed needles give it a spiky look, and in colder areas the foliage turns purple through the winter. This plant is perfect for growing on slopes and in rocky places, with excellent drought tolerance. It could also be grown at the top of a wall, and from zone 5 or 6 it can be grown in a pot too – perfect in a paved courtyard and wonderful for an Asian-themed garden.
Locate your Dwarf Garden Juniper Tree in full sun, but it will tolerate a couple of hours of shade in a day as well. Plant it in any well-drained soil, and that includes poor, sandy and rocky soils, and urban gardens too. Avoid wet soils, and don’t add much if any organic materials when planting. Untouched by deer and normally entirely free of pests or diseases. Probably best left to grow naturally, but some trimming is possible if you wish.
