The Dee Runk Boxwood is the very best narrow upright boxwood available, and always top of the list of recommended upright varieties. It grows to about 10 feet tall, but stays just 2 feet wide, even without trimming. With its small leaves and compact growth, it is perfect for filling small spaces, or accenting corners or entrances. Use it for a screen in a narrow space, or as a vertical specimen in a garden bed, planter or pot. It is completely hardy in zone 6, and it always looks great – a unique boxwood that should be in every garden.
The Dee Runk Boxwood grows best in sun or partial shade, and it also grows well in light full shade. It needs no clipping to remain upright and slender, but in colder areas clipping is recommended to prevent branches collapsing under heavy snow. It has some resistance to the common pests of boxwood, such as leaf miners and boxwood wilt, and it grows as much as 6 inches a year, which is fast for boxwood.
