How are the heights measured?
All tree, and nothin' but the tree! We measure from the top of the soil to the top of the tree; the height of the container or the root system is never included in our measurements.
What is a gallon container?
Nursery containers come in a variety of different sizes, and old-school nursery slang has stuck. While the industry-standard terminology is to call the sizes "Gallon Containers", that doesn't exactly translate to the traditional liquid "gallon" size we think of. You'll find we carry young 1-gallons, up to more mature 7-gallons ranging anywhere from 6 inches to 6ft.
How does the delivery process work?
All of our orders ship via FedEx Ground! Once your order is placed online, our magic elves get right to work picking, staging, boxing and shipping your trees. Orders typically ship out within 2 business days. You will receive email notifications along the way on the progress of your order, as well as tracking information to track your plants all the way to their new home!
Why are some states excluded from shipping?
The short & sweet answer is: "United States Department of Agriculture Restrictions." Every state has their own unique USDA restrictions on which plants they allow to come into their state. While we wish we could serve everyone, it's for the safety of native species and helps prevent the spread of invasive disease & pests. We've gotta protect good ole' Mother Nature, after all.

The Sunset Glow Bamboo is a fast-growing privacy plant that also doubles as garden décor. Your bamboo plant will reach between 6 and 8 feet, easily creating a unique privacy barrier to block out unwanted sights or sounds. The rich texture of the bamboo also makes it a popular choice for gardeners. Thin reed-like leaves extend forward from red-tinted culms in the tree’s undergrowth.
The vigorous and hardy Sunset Glow Bamboo clumps to create dense garden shrub structures. This is preferable to running bamboos, which can be more difficult to maintain. Unlike other Bamboo species, the Sunset Glow Bamboo is non-invasive and tolerant of wind, rain, and sun. Many other deciduous Bamboo plants are unable to adapt to cooler climates. Not the Sunset Glow Bamboo, which is hardy in USDA Hardiness Zones 5-9. The Sunset Glow Bamboo is a perfect privacy or accent plant for both first time gardeners and experienced planters.
Growing Sunset Glow Bamboo Plants
The Sunset Glow Bamboo has a moderately fast growth rate, though significant variances exist based on planting procedures, location, watering, and daily care. On average, the Sunset Glow Bamboo reaches between 2 and 3 feet of growth a year, though some gardeners have had as little as 1-inch annual growth and as much as 5 feet! A mature plant generally reaches between 6 and 8 feet tall. Its width is slightly narrower, measuring between 5 and 6 feet. This helps the Bamboo achieve its small garden-friendly name. The Sunset Glow Bamboo prefers well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. Consider having your soil tested to ensure proper growth for the Bamboo.
The Sunset Glow Bamboo is considered a fast-growing accent or privacy plant. Privacy trees and plants often grow quickly to create dense hedges or trees that block unsightly views, such as highways or neighbors’ yards. The fast-growth of the Sunset Glow Bamboo makes it ideal for this type of gardening since it takes only a few seasons to reach its mature height. This varies greatly from other trees or shrubs that can take up to 50 years to reach mature heights!
Appearance
The dense “clumping” structure of the Sunset Glow Bamboo helps it fit this role expertly. Slender green leaves present in a somewhat cascading or weeping display, offering glimpses of the accented red or orange culm color beneath the shrub’s crown. This vibrant color is what makes the Sunset Glow Bamboo a great accent or ornamental plant. Instead of planting a row of these, simply plant one Bamboo is a central location where its unique coloring can attract the attention of onlookers.
In addition to its coloring, the Sunset Glow Bamboo’s intriguing leaf structure adds texture and diversity to the garden design. Thin green leaves bend towards the ground and branch out to create an display reminiscent of palm or fern fronds. The Sunset Glow Bamboo also grows well in small spaces, which is why it has become one of the most popular privacy and accent plants in urban gardening. Many gardeners enjoy having the option of planting this Bamboo in tight spaces around the yard.
Planting and Initial Care
After you receive your Sunset Glow Bamboo plants, the next step is to engage in proper planting procedures. The first step is identifying an appropriate place to plant your Bamboo plant. Look for areas in full sun or partial shade. Once you’ve located an area, dig a hole three times the width of the Sunset Glow Bamboo’s root ball. The hole should be an inch less deep than the height of the root ball, which allows the root ball to protrude from the soil somewhat. Hold your bamboo vertically in the soil and backfill with soil and water. If using mulch, apply a 3-inch layer in a 3-foot radius around the base of your tree and water immediately.
If you are planting the Sunset Glow Bamboo as a privacy screen, simply plant each specimen in holes between 3 and 4 feet apart, creating a row of Bamboo clumps.
Long-Term Care and Maintenance
Many Bamboo plants require careful maintenance, as they can be invasive and grow out of control. The Sunset Glow Bamboo is not one of these species. Moderate pruning can take place at the end of the growing season. Simply remove dead stalks to encourage growth in the next season. Water frequently and use mulch for best effects, though the Sunset Glow Bamboo tolerates drought and poor soils with ease.
